Physical Education
Physical activity, sport and
recreation play a significant part in our lives. By participating in
physical activity we gain the opportunity for social interaction, fun
and fitness, enjoyment and relaxation. Through the teaching of Phys-Ed
and Sport we aim to promote in children a life long involvement in
physical activity.
During platoon skill building sessions the areas covered are -
Catch
Kick
Run
Vertical Jump
Overhand Throw
Ball Bounce
Leap
Dodge
Punt
Forehand Strike
Two-hand Side-arm strike
These are the core skills taught from Prep - Four
Interschool Sport
Children in grades five and six participate weekly in the interschool sports program. All children have the opportunity to try out for both winter and summer sports. These are rounders, softball, cricket, bat tennis, netball, football, newcomb and soccer.
Cross Country
Children aged 9 years and over are given the chance to try out for the schools cross country events
Athletics
An athletics program is run by the grade five and six teachers during term three. All children aged 9 and over have the chance to learn and develop new skills. Some children are able to go on and represent Wales Street in Zone events.
