Events and fundraising at Wales Street

From the Welcome Picnic to the School Disco, Special Person’s Day Stalls and the School Fete – our annual calendar of social and fundraising events offers a great way to celebrate our fantastic community of students, families and staff. After two years of the pandemic, we are looking forward to reconnecting our community and re-establishing some of our well loved annual events.

Introducing our Social Committee

Wales Street Social  is the overarching committee that co-ordinates the entire calendar of social and fund raising events, and collaborates with the school to make decisions on how to allocate the funds raised – and a whole lot more. The committee meets roughly once a month, or more frequently when there’s an event coming up.

About our events

Current events organised by the committee include the Welcome Picnic, School Disco, Trivia Night, Mothers’ and Fathers’ and Special Persons’ Day stalls, Movie Night, End of Year Concert – and election day BBQs and cake stalls. And who could forget the Fete? It’s the highlight of the school year and it’s a massive community event, so much so that it has a sub-committee of its very own – the Fete Committee – which reports back into the Wales Street Social and school council.

Every one of these events provides an opportunity for our school community come together and enjoy being a part of Wales Street. In addition, many of these events help us to raise welcome funds for the school itself.

What do we do with the money we raise?

The school uses the money raised by  Wales Street Social  and our amazing school community to achieve a range of short and long-term goals – and all of them make a difference to our kids’ learning.

Some recent purchases include iPad for classrooms, improvements to school grounds, Smart TVs for classrooms, numeracy kits, new reading books, Lego kits, fine motor skill equipment, a drumming incursion…. as well as the major project- Nature Play and Outdoor classroom.

Over the past few years we’ve also been channelling funding towards the  new nature play area for the school and some shade sails to provide some much-needed shelter out in the grounds. The shade sails were erected at the beginning of 2019. In 2021, the Nature Play and Outdoor Classroom project was completed. This was a culmination of four years of fundraising by the community to raise the funds for this architect designed space. Classes now enjoy a connection to nature, working outside in the landscaped garden and playing on the adventure play structure. We have received a grant this year, 2022, to provide another shade sail area for the school to use for outdoor learning.
