Classroom help
At Wales Street, our families are a vital part of our school community, and your support in the classroom is always welcome. Classroom help involves volunteering your time – either on a regular or ad hoc basis – and working under the direction of a classroom teacher.
Typical classroom help activities include:
- working with small groups of children
- writing activities
- providing a role model of learning
- changing readers
- listening to individual children read
- maths games & activities
- keeping students on task
- helping with classroom organisation, such as laminating, cutting, sharpening pencils, setting up activities.
Our students will need your undivided attention, so unfortunately it is not possible to bring toddlers with you into the classroom.
Please approach your child’s classroom teacher if you’d like to help in the classroom, and let them know your availability (be sure to mention if you’ve got any special skills or knowledge that you’d like to share in the classroom context).
Working with Children Checks
Please note, in order to assist in the classroom it is essential that our classroom helpers obtain a Working With Children Check. You can apply for your Working With Children Check online and then bring your ID to the office so that it can be recorded.
