2019 fete

Welcome to our 2019 fete news page

Our fete is a great day out for all the family and the major fundraising event for our school. There's lots of opportunity for you to get involved, whether you’re a long-time member of the school or a new family! Stay tuned for this page for weekly updates and keep up with all the fun of the fete on Facebook and our new Instagram feed: @ourgreatfete

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, our great school fete is finally here! Gates open Saturday at 12pm for all-day family fun. There’ll be yummy food, rides and attractions for all ages, live music, bargains, legendary Wales St baked goods and a bar for the grown-ups. Bring your families, friends and neighbours!

Beat the queues on fete day - buy your wristband at school this week

Don’t miss your chance to buy a fete wristband for $35 before and after school this week, near the fete shed. Wristbands are better value than ever this year, with two extra activities included to suit kids of all ages. Buy them ahead of fete day and avoid the queues! More info about wristbands and tickets here.

Let us entertain you
We've got a great line-up of live acts on stage from 12pm. Check out our gig guide so you can plan your day. If your kids are performing in the Wales St Rock Choir, please note they'll be on stage at 1.45pm.

Baking for the fete?
If you're making treats for our fete, please pre-register your goodies before fete day here. We need to know the ingredients and who baked what (the date is American format). Once registered you can pack your own goods, use packaging available from the office or drop off your treats to the school on Friday night or Saturday morning and we'll pack for you.

Get the most out of fete day
Rain, hail, or shine, our fete will be a wonderful day! The weather is expected to be chilly so rug up (and bring an umbrella, just in case). We'll have hot coffee and delicious warm food on offer and many attractions and stalls are undercover or inside. Bring your keep-cups and drink bottles so we can keep waste to a minimum, and don't forget your shopping bags to carry your bargains home! There will be an ATM on site. Take a sneak peek at our fete map to locate your favourite attractions. Maps will be available on the day, too.

Download our Spotify playlist!
Get your groove on and download our very own 'Our great fete' playlist from Spotify. Add your favourite tunes!

Thank you Wales St families

Thank you to all our families who’ve pitched in to make our fete possible. You've helped out at the working bee, opened and closed the fete shed, coordinated stalls, baked delicious treats, donated goods, grown plants, provided your professional services pro bono, bid via our Silent Aucton, sold raffle tickets and have supported our most important school fundraiser in a variety of different ways. Again we are reminded of how special our Wales St community is.

Working bee and fete shed open this Sunday (10am - 1pm)
We need your help this Sunday at our working bee, 10am – 1pm. Tasks include general tidying up of school grounds and some breaking up of concrete. Bring your gardening tools – gloves, brooms, spades, wheelbarrows…and bring your kids, too! Our fete shed will also be open during this time and we’ll need help sorting items, ready for the fete next week.
Please register for the working bee here: https://signup.zone/wsps-fete-2019

More donations needed!
Thank you for the wonderful donations we’ve received so far. Keep them coming! We particularly need more soft drinks, hamper items and goodies for the lucky dip. Refer to your fete planners or scroll below for futher details. Fete shed open every weekday at drop-off and pick up and will also be open 10am – 1pm this Sunday.

Promote our great fete with a sign on your fence
We can all play a role in promoting our school fete. Promotional signage is now available from the office. Grab one this week, along with the fasteners, and tie them to a prominent position on your fence. Let’s tell the whole community about our great fete!

Have you signed up to volunteer?

Without our wonderful Wales St community our fete would not be as great as it is! But we still have half our volunteering shifts to fill, so please pitch in again this year. We particularly need volunteers for face painting/body art haunted house, hot dogs/corn and baked potatoes. Sign up here: https://signup.zone/wsps-fete-2019

Don’t forget, you could win a wristband – we have one more to give away this week!

Local legends Luke and Ryan
Wales St parents and carers go above and beyond when it comes to our fete. Like garden guru Luke Morgan who's been cultivating his plant babies for months. You can pick up these green goodies on fete day for a steal. Ryan Evans, a sparky, is donating his time to ensure we're fully charged and ready to go on the day. We think Luke and Ryan are legends - but they're not alone. Hundreds of you pitch in and help out before, on and after fete day and we couldn't do it without you. THANK YOU!

WIN a wristband!
We’ll be giving away one wristband (for unlimited access to rides!) for the next three weeks…all you need to do is sign up to volunteer at our great fete and you’ll go into the draw! Sign up now at https://signup.zone/wsps-fete-2019

Where does the money go?
Our fete is a great day out for all the family and strengthens our wonderful WSPS community, but it also raises much-needed funds to enhance our children’s learning and improve their experience at school. Here’s a sample of initiatives already funded by the fete:

  • Bee-bot mats to help Prep – Grade 2 students integrate literacy, numeracy and inquiry with digital technology
  • Sphero robots to inspire curiosity, creativity and invention through connected play and coding for Grade 3 – Grade 6
  • Cushions and outdoor mats for increased engagement in reading and use of classroom libraries
  • Post boxes for Grade 1 classes, to encourage independent writing
  • Shade sails (currently being installed)
  • African drumming lessons for Grade 5 students (amazing performance at last year’s concert!)
The Anxious Bird information session being held at school on 14th March for parents/carers is also funded by the fete.
We look forward to sharing some of these initiatives with you at this year’s fete…robot racing anyone?
