Our school

Since our school gates first opened in 1891, Wales Street Primary School has thrived as a central part of the Northcote and Thornbury community that we call home. As an accredited IB school, we’re here to help our students achieve their very best, and to help foster a love of life-long learning.

FROM OUR PRINCIPAL

Hello – and welcome to Wales Street! As I look around our school each day, I’m surrounded by busy kids and equally busy staff; learning, teaching, playing, growing. We’re here to deliver a well-rounded program for our kids, one that’s focused not just on their academic development, but also on their social and emotional development and wellbeing.

In recent years I’ve had the privilege of helping to oversee and implement extensive refinements to our core literacy and numeracy programs. In 2015 we gained accreditation to deliver the International Baccalaureate – Primary Years Program, and this underpins our delivery of the overarching Victorian Curriculum.

You’ll find lots of helpful information about our learning and student welfare programs here on this website, as well as a taste of what it’s like to be part of this amazing Wales Street community.

Jenny Deeble, Principal

Student welfare

At Wales Street Primary School we believe that everyone has:

These two rights guide our behaviour management processes both in the classroom and in the playground.
